Everyone is an artist at the Shops at Park Lane come May 21, or at least you can throw on your best beret and give chalk art a try.  All you need is a piece of chalk and a good idea.  The Shops at Park Lane will be turning into an unconventional art gallery on that day when an event called “Chalk the Park” will take place featuring professional artists creating chalk art murals alongside chalk art novices.  The murals will be located between Starbucks, Zoes Kitchen and Crisp Salad Co., according to Michelle Davis, Director of Marketing, Northwood Retail.

The all-day chalk festival will give attendees the chance to witness professional artists creating colossal eye-popping chalk art murals.

Davis says that the professional artists in attendance will be drawing ideas from a fashion theme “Jashua Davies’ two models wearing fashion that can be found at The Shops at Park Lane; Carrie Dziabeczenko, [a] colorful cartoon of women shopping at The Shops at Park Lane and Lori Fitzgerald’s recreation of photograph by Kim Anderson of a little girl gleefully shopping - black and white with touches of color.”

Hoping to make this an annual event, Davis says “Our marketing team continues to brainstorm new, unique event ideas that activate our new park.  Along with “Chalk The Park,” we will also have a Father’s Day Weekend Car Show and Movies In The Park every Friday in June.”

For the “Chalk the Park” event chalk will be provided to anyone who wants to try their hand at drawing and Davis says visitors are encouraged to demonstrate their artistic talent on the sidewalks surrounding The Park.

“Chalk the Park” will also feature music throughout the day by DJ Jose G as well as face painters for the kids from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

“We strive to put on quality, family friendly events that our customers will enjoy,” Davis says. “Chalk the Park is a fun way to engage our shoppers by having children and budding artists create their own chalk art designs while watching professional artists.”

The Shops at Park Lane opened in the spring of 2009 with fashion, dining and entertainment options.   North Texas' largest Whole Foods Market is located at the shopping center as is Nordstrom Rack, Saks OFF 5th, Bloomingdales—The Outlet, a two-story Old Navy as well as a bowling alley and Dallas’ flagship Starbucks, which now serves beer and wine.

“We hope our shoppers have a memorable day at The Shops at Park Lane,” Davis concludes.  “If they shop at our stores or eat at one of our restaurants that would be the icing on the cake.”

The Shops at Park Lane is located at the Southeast Corner of Park Lane and Central Expressway at 8080 Park Lane in Dallas. For more information visit www.shopsatparklane.com.
