Things are bigger and better in Dallas, the ninth largest city in the United States and the third largest in Texas with a population of 1,241,162, Dallas has a huge personality and is home to a number of firsts.  For example, the frozen margarita machine was invented in Dallas as was the integrated circuit computer chip, aka the microchip.

The Dallas area is actually the largest metropolitan area in the nation not on a navigable body of water, so if you are looking for something to do this spring break in the Big D there are plenty of choices. Here are some ideas that incorporate Dallas and its unique qualities.

The Trinity River Corridor Project, when completed, will be more than 10 times the size of New York's Central Park.  What you can do there now includes daily fitness activities, children’s programs and even dining opportunities throughout the day.  For more details about getting outdoors to enjoy the weather in this area visit http://trinityrivercorridor.org/.

The Dallas Arts District is the largest urban arts district in the United States with a hefty list of daily visual and performing art options.  From Nasher Sculpture Center to the Dallas Theater Center or the Dallas Symphony Orchestra you can spend an entire week enjoying this dynamic destination right in the heart of the city.  Details about the things to do are at http://www.dallasartsdistrict.org/.

While spring break is all about having fun, if you want to take a moment for some extra credit get down to the Dallas Public Library where there is a permanently displayed original copy of the Declaration of Independence that was printed on July 4, 1776.  You will also find the First Folio of William Shakespeare's "Comedies, Histories & Tragedies."  For more details about all the Dallas Library has to offer visit http://dallaslibrary2.org/.

If shopping is your thing then you definitely want to head to Highland Park Village Shopping Center (http://hpvillage.com/).  The shopping center was developed in 1931 and was the first planned shopping center in America.  It is upscale and trendy and you can choose from stores like Anthropologie, Ralph Lauren or Tom Ford, to name a few and then grab a bite at Mi Cocina or KT Burger.

In the lobby of Dallas Children’s Medical Center there sits the largest permanent model train exhibit on display in the country.  The model train display features the Dallas skyline and, in the winter time, holiday decorations.  For train lovers this is a stop you don’t want to miss.

A short drive from Dallas on I-30 the Dallas Cowboys AT&T Stadium in Arlington offers daily tours.  What is amazing about the visit is you will find that with the roof enclosed, the entire Statue of Liberty could fit into Cowboys Stadium.  AT&T Stadium is actually the world's largest domed structure and is also an art museum and a classroom with tours as diverse as educational, art and VIP tour options.  For details about tour schedules visit http://stadium.dallascowboys.com/.

So if you can’t find something to do for spring break this year in the Dallas area then you just aren’t looking. Pick a few of these unusual ideas and get busy discovering.
