The Texas Senate has confirmed Gov. Perry’s appointment of Arlington attorney Don Hase to be the newest member of the Governing Board of the Texas Indigent Defense Commission. The commission develops policies and standards for providing legal representation and other defense service for indigent criminal defendants at trial, on appeal and in post-conviction proceedings. Hase becomes the second member of the Commission from Tarrant County, along with Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley.

Hase is an attorney and partner at Ball & Hase, PC in Arlington. In 2007, the Texas Indigent Defense Commission (then called the Texas Task Force for Indigent Defense) awarded Hase the Richard O. Dawson Indigent Defense Distinguished Service Award for outstanding service and contribution to the way Texas provides counsel for its poorest citizens accused of crimes. He is a former Tarrant County Assistant District Attorney. He is a member and past president of the Tarrant County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, a member of the State Bar of Texas, Arlington and Tarrant County Bar Associations, and the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He has been board certified as a criminal law specialist by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1986. He has also been named a Texas Super Lawyer by Texas Monthly magazine for 2009-12. He received his bachelor’s degree and law degree from Texas Tech University.
