Oakridge Students Help DFW Community Through Day of Service

ARLINGTON, Texas - More than 300 students, faculty, and staff from The Oakridge School made a difference in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex recently, when they assisted local community organizations in need of help.

The students and educators worked side by side for the Upper School’s annual community service day, which allowed them to do everything together from organizing canned goods and clothing, to painting offices, and any other tasks the organizations needed.

“Service in the community is something that we have always been passionate about,” said Head of Upper School Jim Andersen. “In fact, the concept of service is woven into our school mission. Our young men and women are inspired to seek their full potential in academics, the arts, and athletics, but they also are inspired to become servant leaders.

I am always so proud of the commitment of our students. One organization told us that we were the best student volunteers they had ever hosted.”

Among the Dallas-Fort Worth area organizations served, were: the Salvation Army, Boys and Girls Clubs, Union Gospel Mission, Mansfield Mission, Meals on Wheels, 6 Stones, and Mission Arlington.

Established in 1979, The Oakridge School is a coeducational, college preparatory school for students in preschool through grade 12. The school draws a diverse student body from 36 area cities and 15 countries to a dynamic learning environment on a 100-acre campus in Arlington. The Oakridge School mission is to inspire students to seek their full potential in academics, the arts, and athletics in a challenging and nurturing environment that cultivates social responsibility, mutual respect, and personal integrity.
