Saturday and Sunday, July 6 and 7, The Parks at Arlington will keep the all-American spirit of the Fourth of July going, when it offers individuals two ways to reach out and help others with life-saving contributions.

Both July 6 and 7, Be The Match representatives from Cook Children’s Medical Center and volunteers from Carter BloodCare will be at the shopping center from 12 to 6 p.m., recruiting individuals to become a marrow donor match and donate blood. Carter will add one additional donor day and individuals will also be able to donate blood on Monday, July 8 from 12 to 6 p.m.

Carter BloodCare Center will ask individuals to roll up their sleeves and donate blood. As a thank you, each person who donates will receive a pair of AMC movie tickets. Carter needs 1,110 blood donors a day to meet the needs of the organizations it serves in North, Central and East Texas communities. Individuals can donate blood beginning at age 16 with a parent’s consent, and 17-year-olds can give independently. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and present photo ID.

Be The Match is a nationwide program that connects patients who have been diagnosed with life-threatening diseases with individuals who could be a life-saving marrow donor match. Professionals from Cook Children’s will be on hand to offer information and register individuals aged 18 to 44 as marrow donors. According to Be The Match, every four minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer such as leukemia, lymphoma and sickle cell anemia. Thousands of patients hope for a marrow donor every day, and someone who registers during The Parks at Arlington drive could be the one.

Be The Match and Carter BloodCare representatives will be inside The Parks at Arlington near FootLocker. The blood donor mobile coach will be stationed in the parking lot by the entrance to Samsung Galaxy Center Court and FootLocker.
