Urban Forest and Land Manager, City of Arlington
I have loved plants all my life. When I was a small child, when my parents were at work I would stay with my great grandparents. They had a huge over an acre vegetable garden along with tons of flower garden around their house. I work with my grandmother everyday in the garden and fell in love with plants.
When I got older and it was time to go to college I could not think of anything else I loved to do expect work with plants. Horticulture seemed to be the right field for me. I attended the University of Arkansas and received a B.S in landscape horticulture with a minor in landscape design. While I was at the University I had to chance to do my internship in Scotland. I worked at the Explorers garden in Pitlochery, Scotland and the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh. This was a live changing experience.
Once I finished college I went to work for The Country Club of Little Rock, as head Landscape Horticulturist. I worked there for many years.
I moved to Texas around 7 years ago. I started working for the City of Arlington in Golf but quickly decided that was not the place for me. The Urban Forest position came open and I got the job. I was Urban Forester for a few years when Urban Forest and Land Manger position came available. I got that job and here I am today.
I have a Texas pesticide licenses, Irrigators licenses, ISA certified Arborist with hazard tree certification, Past President of CTUFC, Superintendent of TCJJLS horticulture division and a Member of Arlington Nooners Toastmasters.
Personally, I have a beautiful daughter a wonderful husband, 3 dogs and a rabbit. I love to hike (like every weekend) and travel. I have a hiking, travel and garden blog, mywonderfulwalk.com….
